Lately, the food delivery app, Zomato asserted to have attained 28 million monthly order run rate in December. In October, the food delivery app recorded a lower run rate that is, 21 million. Fairly, the current surge in the figure represents the growth in the business.
In essence, order run rate is not considered as an absolute order amount. It mainly indicates future prospects of the business and is estimated considering the week which received highest order run rate in the month.
Zomato has not declared its absolute numbers yet; however its opponent, Swiggy has declared its absolute number to be same as Zomatos order run rate that is, 28 million.
Both the companies are niche players in the industry and raised capital through various financial strategies. Owing to which, the companies purvey huge discount offers and other customary offers. The niche player, Zomato adopted various strategic tactics such as dine-in subscription service, Gold and its reward programme, Piggybank. The dine-in subscription has incremented users to 7 lakh and the reward programme has raised subscribers up to 1.5 lakh. (Source ET)
Besides the top players, there are other emerging players in the industry namely, Foodpanda and UberEats. These two food delivery platforms are also alluring customers and giving tough competition to Zomato as well as Swiggy.
