Well, the education industry is one of the best investment opportunities in India. This industry is still developing where new innovative startups are emerging and even small businesses have a fruitful career in it. With the introduction of technology, the e-learning space is becoming one of the fastest growing markets in the education industry in India.
India has one of the largest education systems in the world but with the increasing population, the education is not available to all. There are over 1.5 million schools and over 762 universities in India according to IBEF report but still, rural areas are lacking behind in terms of education. This industry is emerging with lots of business industry where need actually exists.
This industry has diversified into various segments like K12, higher education, tutoring, e-learning, day-care, pre-school, vocational education, distance and skill training education. It is now obvious that there are business opportunities in all these markets and you have to choose which suits you the best. But before concluding anything let’s see some trends in this industry.
Current Trends
Indian education industry was valued at $97.8 billion in 2016 and it is projected that it will touch $144 billion by 2020. It is alleged that school market is contributing 52 per cent to the education industry which is around $52 billion and higher education contributing 15 per cent and vocational education in manufacturing and services contributes 5 per cent while e-learning and allied services contribute 28 per cent, according to IBEF report.
According to DIPP report, foreign direct investment in education industry stood at $1.42 billion in the time frame of 2014-17.
The online education industry in India is projected to reach by 2021, as per the combined report Google and KPMG.
Recent Investments in Education Space
- Info Edge which is the parent company of job portal Naukri has invested Rs 12.5 crore in education service startup Univariety.
- Springboard, an online education startup has secured the funding of $9.5 million in series A funding led by Costanoa Ventures, Learn Capital, angel investor Jyoti Bansal and existing investors of the company.
- Ed-tech startup Perspectico saises seed funding in pre-series A funding round by an incubator.
